National Library partners with Coderina
National Library partners with Coderina; to bring digital literacy, Entrepreneurship and Robotics to youth in Abuja metropolis and underserved communities. This partner underpins the great commitment and vision of the leadership of the National Library to embrace digital transformation.
Access is universal, opportunity is not. This clichéd saying holds true in Nigeria where internet penetration is low and barriers to access to quality education for young learners are, or rather remains to be very high.
Through this partnership, Coderina; a Not for profit organization that leverages technology as an enabler for social, economic and gender inclusion, plans to kill several birds with one stone by democratizing access to connectivity and digital literacy, while also making sustainable; acquisition of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) Education, helping young learners gain 4IR and lifelong skills
Internet access is scant, however, we will be providing access and also equipping a section of the library with robotics kits and other learning tools, this would in turn, ensure that the library becomes all the more inclusive and caters for every learning style be it visual, auditory, reading/writing or kinesthetic.
Addressing Africa’s skills gap in the age of technology would require bold steps to be taken in the area of capacity building. According to the World Economic Forum, “The root of unemployment is not only a lack of jobs; a key underlying issue is also the inadequately educated workforce. And this challenge is likely to be amplified in the coming years due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by fast-paced technological progress combined with other socio-economic and demographic changes, which will further transform labor markets.” Hence the time to start address skills shortages is now.
According to the renowned Professor Sally Eaves, “Education must be aligned to the pace of change and expanding skill needs of Industry 4.0” Coderina’s partnership with the National Library focuses on exactly that – “contributing to preparing a digitally skilled workforce and these skills can be applied not only in digital transformation for business but for broader societal impact too, to tackle some of the key social, economic and environmental challenges of our time.”
The goal is to create an enabling environment for every young learner and out-of-school youth, where they are equipped with requisite skills and competencies, information, opportunity and choice to prepare them for the future of work or entrepreneurship..
