Africa Code Week: Empowering Educators and Youth for a Digital Future
On August 30, 2023, the Coderina EdTech Foundation organized a Training of Trainers program as part of the Africa Code Week celebration.
Coderina’s African Code Week program stands as a significant initiative aimed at advancing digital literacy and innovation in Africa. It actively empowers the continent’s youth through their educators, equipping them with essential skills for the digital era.
Equipping Educators: Training for a Digital Future
Recognizing the pivotal role that educators play in the learning process, we embarked on a mission this year, conducting a Training of the Trainers session. The primary objective of this workshop is to empower teachers with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively teach coding and digital skills to their students.
A Warm Welcome and Engaging Sessions
Our invitation reached over 250 participants, including secondary school teachers from the public sector and members of the Secondary Education Board (SEB) located in the FCT.
The session commenced with the national anthem, followed by a warm welcome from Mr. Jerry. Participants were then seamlessly introduced to fundamental coding concepts and computational thinking. Subsequently, they engaged in hands-on group sessions, led by Mr. Pelumi, which included an introduction to the programming language Scratch.
Energizing Breaks and Closing Gratitude
A brief intermission was thoughtfully provided before resuming the instruction on Scratch.
The program wrapped up with heartfelt expressions of gratitude and a final rendition of the national anthem.
The Impact of Collaboration: Africa’s Digital Future
Africa Code Week illustrates how powerful public-private partnerships can be in driving positive change. By teaching coding and digital skills to African youth, ACW actively promotes a brighter future, innovation, and social inclusion. Initiatives like this one play a pivotal role in ensuring that everyone actively participates in the digital revolution.
